"Holographic
Concentration for Solar Applications"
This
new type of photovoltaic module that uses transparent holographic
optical elements in its design. This innovative, patented
holographic technology, collects and spectrally selects useful
wavelengths from the sun and focuses them onto the cell to
create electricity.
Holographic
Elements can reduce the amount of silicon required up to 85%.
The solar concentration is achieved using a hologram imaged
onto a transparent medium that is sealed between two pieces
of glass. The hologram is a patent protected, unique technology.
Materials used are proven, time tested, and have multiple
vendors, minimizing business risk. The fundamental science
and engineering behind this baseline design are credible and
well-understood. |
|
The
concept of using holographic concentration for solar applications
has been discussed in the technical literature since 1981.This
approach is both unique and workable, and the hologram design
is well-suited for a variety of PV applications. |

"Vineyard
Sound Project"
Another
federally permitted tidal-energy project is planned in Vineyard
Sound. The Cape and Islands Tidal Energy Project is a private
venture calling for the installation of one or more clusters
of underwater turbines.
Each
tidal-energy generator is expected to produce between 1 and
3 megawatts of electricity at peak tide for several hours
a day, depending on the power of the current. That would be
enough energy to power about 750 homes.
The
Vineyard Sound proposal calls for construction of up to 150
tidal-energy generators, according to Massachusetts Tidal
Energy Co, the Washington, D.C.-based company that has applied
for a federal permit for the project.
Charlie
Cooper is a Massachusetts-based consultant working for the
company. He said their preliminary permit allows for research
to be done in the waters of Vineyard Sound to see whether
the tidal flow will be sufficient to generate enough electricity
to be economically viable. "It depends on a lot of things,"
Cooper said from his Lowell office. "A pilot-scale (generator)
will get in the water within one or two years."
Massachusetts
Tidal's parent company, Oceana Energy Co., has a handful of
similar projects across the country, including waters off
New Hampshire, Alaska and Oregon, he said. Because tidal currents
at those sites are stronger, Cooper said, the Vineyard Sound
site is relatively low on the company's priority list.
Cooper
said a 2-meter-per-second current speed is needed to turn
the turbines fast enough to generate an economically viable
level of electricity. Preliminary testing in Vineyard Sound
has found the tidal current speed is about 11⁄2-meters-per-second. |

"Achieving
Green Results: In Corporate Strategy Today"
Delivering
on the Bottom Line: Corporate Governance and Social Needs
Workshop
Green
team members Jackie Jaques and Jane Greenstine came back into
town early this morning on the red eye from Phoenix, Arizona
after a full week of green strategy meetings at the "AHC
Group, Inc.'s (Experts in Corporate Strategy and Social Responsibility)
Corporate Governance and Social Needs workshop.
If you
were to choose two words to describe the workshop, those words
would be, "Rare Opportunity", and these green team
leaders made the most of their time out west, taking in the
words and lessons offered up by the likes of Siemans Rick
Walker who gave a fabulous presentation on the greening of
existing buildings, or Gordon Lambert of Suncor with his presentation
on growing a sustainable energy company.
At every
turn of the week, another wonderful opportunity was presenting
itself as our green team met people from the Department of
Defense and the EPA, chatted with top executives from Louisiana
Pacific, or heard green success stories from people like New
Leaf founder and president Jeff Mendelsohn.
There
are simply too many wonderful people and companies that presented
at this workshop to mention here, but to all of them, a gracious
thank you from our green team to yours for being so generous
of your time and advice as we all learn to be better green
corporate stewards.
The cloud
formation picture above is what the green team saw as soon
as they came to town. No one in the town had ever seen anything
like it before. We feel it was just another sign that someone
is telling us that our quest to help save the planet is real
and needed. |

"Annual
First Night"
Family,
Friends and Children
is what makes First Night
so very special. There was so much for everyone to do
for so many hours of the day and the night. We look
forward to seeing everyone there again next year. Westport,
knows how to roll out the red carpet when they host
an event. Rozanne Gates knows how to throw a party,
and First Night
was a wonderful time. The YMCA
in downtown Westport is a magnificent historic building
that has been command central for First Night for the
last 14 years. We will be Going

Build Green Invited To Historic Press Conference In White
Plains, NY |
 |
| On
December 4th, the True Green Team joined FUSE USA in a
show of unity at the Westchester County government building
for a press conference with State Attorney General Cuomo.
Every level of government was represented, with members
of Congress Nita Lowey and John Hall joining in a call
for the immediate closure of the trouble plagued Indian
Point nuclear reactors in Buchanan, New York. The politicians,
local community organizations, and concerned citizens
all want the plant, which is leaking cancer causing Tritium
and Strontium 90 into the Hudson River, closed sooner
than later. We were pleased to join FUSE USA in opposing
the license renewal application of Entergy's troublesome
Indian Point. GHS Green Team and FUSE USA were invited
by state officials to be part of this historic event. |

| Greenwich
CT, Extreme Green Makeover. |
 |
 |
| This
3 bedroom home in Greenwich, CT was built in 1963 and
the family needs more room. This project is in the early
stages of development and many options are being considered.
We welcome input on the design and may have a “Design
Challenge” to create our Extreme Green Home©,
our new venture launching in 2008, which will build eco-friendly,
energy efficient, renewable energy modular homes. This
may be the first site for our new state-of-the-art line
of custom built homes. |
 |
| This
house is located on a hill overlooking the water and we
are considering many options for the site location. If
we can retain the foundation and achieve our goals then
we will keep it. We may move the house and re-grade the
slope of the land which will accomplish many changes the
home owners would like to make while also providing better
sun capture for the solar system expected to power this
home. Check
back often! We will be posting all estimates and permitting
information for this build. Let's all chip in and help
Meg, Mark and their boys rebuild healthy and green. Green
Demolitions® will be involved in the supplying of
all appliances, kitchen cabinets, counter tops and fixtures.
This project expects to be completed in 2008. |

Update: 11-07-07 |

 |
What
a day, after two trains and a 45 minute ride into the
city I arrived at my first full day at the 2007 USGBC
Green Build International Conference and Expo. Chicago
is one of the Greenest City in the US, and the new West
Building at McCormick Place played host to this great
event. The Show floor opened last night to a festive
ground and a positive outlook on the state of green.
I will tell you this from the front lines of the cause,
it's real, it is getting stronger and the push is there
to bring green building practices to the mainstream.
One of the biggest challenges is the stigma that green
cost more. In many cases is does not, and in almost
all cases there are major advantages to the quality
and efficiency of the build. Later in this story, we
will brake down facts about what you, us, everyone,
who thinks green is, and who is green. You will be surprised
at what you learn. We welcome your input and questions. |

 |
| Thousands
of people filled the room to here our Keynote Speaker
Mr William J. Clinton, our 42nd president of the United
States. He did a fine job, his speech was dead on and
he received an award from the USGBC for a Platinum Rating
for refitting his library. His new foundation, "The
Clinton Foundation" pledge is to change hundreds
of millions of square feet of buildings in this country
and around the world to more Eco-Friendly buildings. Schools
were a hot topic in many seminars and speeches and we
will highlighting a very impressive option for classrooms
and schools, and how you the taxpayer can understand
how to be involved in the awareness of what type of building
your child is spending a good part of his or her young
life in. |

One
of the interesting parts of the day was seeing a product developed
in my backyard. UTC Power had developed a Hydrogen Powered
Bus. Just in case you do not know who they are, they provide
the Hydrogen cells that powers the Space Shuttle. I spent
some time talking to the Vice President of Transportation
for UTC Power, Kenneth Stewart about the development of Hydrogen
Transportation and where it was going. I will tell you more
on this later in this thread. I will say this, water has amazing
energy potential and is a exciting renewable energy source.
Fact, Out of 100% of all energy produced, 91% is useless and
we only yield 9% of usable energy. Those numbers do not add.
Hope
this information was helpful and please check back in a few
days to get the complete story and see all the fanatic product
that we will be bringing back. |
